Yes! This! A Million Times Yes!

Today's suggested reading is Feminism 101 brought to you by Mellisa McEwan at Shakesville.   This one is long and serves as a consolidation of topics covered so beautifully in her many posts.  Bookmark it and read it all eventually.  I am not sure I have fully absorbed all that this has to offer, but it elicits in me an almost visceral response of "Yes, this is exactly what I have been trying to say."

High points that I feel must be looked at include, but are certainly not limited to:
and my very favorite because you know this is my ax to grind in a huge way:
  • On Projection and Homophobia- This one put into words exactly what I was trying to get at when I wrote this post.  There is a line in this one that sums it all up so perfectly, you will know it when you see it, believe me.
There is so much more, but check it out and when you are feeling appropriately fired up, come back and tell me what you liked, or didn't.

I felt sad after reading Feminism 101. Is this really all the farther we have gotten?? It seems to me that decrying mysoginistic language and then referring to oneself as 'a greedy bitch' negates the decrying. And classifying all straight male sexuality as inherently predatory is just as flawed as classifying all gay male sexuality as uncontrollable. Thanks for the blog though, Alexis, I've really been enjoying your writings.
